It was the turn of the year 3+4 basketballers from local primary schools to strut their stuff tonight at Kingslea School. Just like in the year 5+6s it was Kingslea A who came through to win the glory, albeit very closely, requiring superior baskets difference (‘BD’ in the results table below) to elevate them above St Robert Southwell into top spot.

The eight competing teams were initially randomly split into two first phase round-robin groups from which placings would inform whether teams went into either Division One or Two for Phase 2 of the process.

Initial games in Group A were tight but Kingslea A came out with a full house of narrow wins. St Robert Southwell also qualified for the top tier with two wins including one in a super game with Northolmes that finished 10-8 in their favour.

Kingslea B mirrored their A team’s unbeaten record with three confident victories that all had a margin of six points. Shelley came second by virtue of two marginal wins over Kingslea C and Castlewood.

Northolmes took out their frustration at just missing out on top group frustration on Division 2 opponents by winning two and drawing 4-4 with Kingslea C to top the tier. Kingslea D pulled off a surprise win over Kingslea C to take second place in the standings.

So to Division 1. Kingslea A and St Robert Southwell repeated their Phase 1 encounter which Kingslea had won and this time the spoils were shared in a 2-2 draw. Both won their other two matches to leave them on similar group points but Kingslea A’s wins were more decisive leaving them with a much superior baskets difference.  Kingslea B took third.
