The next generation of basketball talent in the Horsham area was on show at Kingslea School tonight as 13 primary school year 5+6 teams congregated to play their annual tournament. Host school Kingslea proved the dominant force as its A and B teams took first and second spots respectively, Kingslea A winning all its five matches on the night to earn their glory.
Teams were split up into four first phase groups. Whilst Kingslea A and Kingslea B smashed through their qualifying groups with maximum points the other two groups required points difference to split first and second places. So Leechpool A edged out Castlewood in Group 2 and Northolmes gave Rusper A the nudge in Group 3.
Placings in the first phase directed teams into three second phase divisions. In Division 3 the key game between the top two, Leechpool B and Kingslea E, proved a bit of an anti-climax, as the former team stormed it 14-2.
St Robert Southwell won Division 2 with three wins but their match against nearest challengers Southwater proved a lot more exciting, ending up 8-6 in St Rob’s favour.
In Division 1 Kingslea A’s ascendancy was never really in doubt. Whilst all opponents were able to get a score none of them could get over half of the totals the Kings were able to accumulate. Second placed Kingslea B’s 6-20 defeat was the closest anybody got.
