A tremendous night of year 4 football at the Tanbridge astroturf tonight and it was Southwater A being the most tremendous of the nine teams there, winning all eight of its encounters to win the event in style, six points ahead of nearest rivals Kingslea.
Indeed Southwater A didn’t concede a single goal in the process whilst at the same time knocking 28 into the opposition net, a number of them being hit from considerable distance. Only Kingslea and St Mary’s Pulborough managed to keep them down to two goals in a match.
As Southwater A went in pursuit of their full house key big rivals Heron Way, Kingslea A and Leechpool A played well but tended to trip up one by one with a mixture of draws and defeats against each other. Kingslea A and Leechpool A ended up one each and indeed Leechpool A went halves with another three teams, before both fell at Southwater hands.
Heron Way were also looking good, despite a draw with Leechpool A draw, until Kingslea rained on their parade 2-0 in round 7 before Southwater smashed them 3-0 in their last match. However the fact that Leechpool A suffered even greater Southwater pain, 4-0, mean the Herons took third place on goal difference above them.
St Mary’s Pulborough enjoyed a good night to take fifth spot, proving a thorn in the side of a number of bigger beasts. Southwater B came in sixth, some achievement after losing their opening five matches without scoring a single goal. Amazing what three late wins can do for you.
Shelley, with a tight defence, were always competitive but need to scoere more goals if they’re going to improve on the seventh place in future competitions. Leechpool B and Castlewood were also goal shy but the former avoided bottom spot by getting a scoreless draw against Shelley.
