Shelley School won the year 3+4 dodgeball championships played tonight in the indoor athletics hall (‘The Tube’) at The Bridge leisure centre as a consequence of wet weather preventing play outdoors. They won a round-robin of eight teams from six schools, winning six of their seven matches and, interestingly, only being defeated by bottom team Southwater B in their second match of the night.
St Robert Southwell School came second proving hard to beat, winning three and only losing to the eventual winners. Leechpool A took third place finishing one point behind St Roberts. Southwater A and Leechpool B took different routes to accumulating their seven points totals but the former finished slightly ahead in the final standings courtesy of a better ends difference.
Castlewood started very strong with two wins but a 2-1 defeat to Shelley knocked them off their stride and they finished sixth by the end. Despite Southwater B earning street-cred by beating the champions early in the piece, a 2-0 defeat to Northolmes decided seventh and eighth place between them.
Well played to everyone involved and what an atmosphere in The Tube; the place was rocking with the throng of parents and teachers shouting on the youngsters.
