Some more great matches in the second meeting of the Horsham Primary Schools Girls Football League tonight on the Tanbridge astroturf.

Southwater and Heron Way A teams started in the two top spots and duly went unbeaten again on the night but their title-hunting party has been crashed into by a Leechpool A team that enjoyed four straight wins second time out.

Centre-piece fixture of the evening brought Heron Way A and Southwater A into combat against each other in the second round of matches. Both team had chances, Southwater mainly threatening with distance shots but the Herons failing to convert the best close-range opportunity, and in the end both had to settle with the scoreless draw. Whilst this was the Herons’ only points drop what was less expected was Heron Way B holding Southwater A to a 1-1 draw later in the evening, a result that makes Heron Way A favourites despite the closeness of the chase.

Below the top echelon Shelley were the biggest chart risers thanks to three excellent wins from their four matches. Only Heron Way A resisted their progress in a tight match that finished 1-0 to the title aspirants.

Shelley’s steep ascent was mirrored by Heron Way B’s descent despite their heroic performance versus Southwater A. Defeats against St Mary’s Pulborough and Leechpool A meant their net direction of travel was down the table. St Peter’s Cowfold also felt the force of gravity with four defeats seeing them drop from mid-table to the lower reaches of the standings.

St Mary’s Pulborough and Kingslea A consolidated their positions behind the top three . The former recovered well from two early defeats whilst the latter came out the right side of two close matches.

Leechpool B and Castlewood both exactly repeated their win-loss-draw record of the first meeting to remain in lower mid-table territory. Leechpool C gained a creditable draw against St Mary’s Pulborough and Kingslea B did likewise against Leechpool B. Both hold 12 points, similar goal difference and are only divided by goals scored, in Leechpool’s favour. So another mini-battle for meeting 3 in two weeks’ time to resolve.
