The Horsham Primary Schools Football League got underway tonight with the first of three meetings on the Tanbridge astroturf. 13 teams contested a total of 27 matches on the night, the first instalment of a 78 match process that will see all teams compete against each other in a straight round-robin format.

The Southwater and Heron Way A teams in customary fashion both made strong starts both winning four apiece and not conceding a goal. Heron Way B also went unbeaten and Leechpool A were also strong with three wins but lost out by a single goal to Heron Way A. St Mary’s Pulborough fared well too but will rue a surprise 2-1 defeat to Castlewood that denied them an even better position come the finish of the first meeting. Kingslea A had a similar record to Pulborough but sit a point below them as a result of the latter gaining a losing bonus point.

St Peter’s Cowfold still bang in mid table after two wind and two losses, an initial 7-0 reverse to Heron Way A followed by a 4-0 blasting of Kingslea A reflective of their unpredictability. Leechpool B and Castlewood both accumulated 10 points. Whilst Southwater B failed to score a goal they only conceded three in five matches. Shelley had a tough start losing their first three matches but their world brightened up considerably after a 2-0 win over Leechpool B in their last match. 

Kingslea B were the other team to play five on the night. Unfortunately for them after securing a useful draw versus Southwater B in their first they lost the subsequent four. A difficult night also for Leechpool C, despite all their pluck, losing all of their four matches to finish in the bottom spot.
