There were two exciting climaxes to the Horsham Area Year 3+4 Football League tonight on the astroturf at Tanbridge House School. The first meeting two weeks ago had sifted teams into two fresh round-robins divisions, One and Two, and both turned out to be close as a consequence of some topsy-turvy results. In the final standings however Kingslea A topped the upper tier by just two points over both Heron Way A and Shelley, and the lower division Southwater B squeezed out Leechpool B courtesy of scoring more goals after their points totals and goal differences came out similar.

Kingslea A struck wins in their first three matches before draw specialists, and the only unbeaten team in the division, Shelley pegged them back with a scoreless draw. Next up was Heron Way A in the pivotal match and a single strike allied to some determined defending saw them through. All looked hunkydory but a last match defeat versus lowly Plaistow and Kirdford put them on tenterhooks until the announcement that they’d done enough to be crowned champions, albeit all of Heron Way A, Shelley and Southwater A all finishing within three points of their total at the end.

Southwater B and Leechpool B took very different paths on their way to their 19 point hauls at the top of Division Two. Southwater B won more but suffered a surprise local derby defeat to Castlewood. Leechpool remained unbeaten but won less, having drawn three of their encounters. Castlewood took third and could have been in with their own shout for top spot but for their only defeat to Leechpool B, 1-0.
