Over 20 youngsters from Horsham and Crawley Community table tennis clubs convened at Forest School, new home of Horsham Table Tennis Club, today for a developmental competition. Three children dropped out due to illness and it was great to have three dads stepping into the breach to make good organiser Ian Ford’s schedules.

The main fare of the day saw players divided up by ability/experience into four round-robin groups of six players. Dad Steve Ettridge won out in Group D but highest junior finisher and therefore trophy winner was Thomas Chan with Ocean Young getting up the runner-up medal. Samuel Zimmerman’s machine gun forehand topspin saw him win a full-house of victories in Group C with Lap Yan Man coming second.

Gordon Chan cruised to the Group B title with five wins. Nathaniel Craig confirmed his blossoming talent by being the next highest finisher. Coach Tat On Man powered to the top of Group A but junior Will Ettridge earned the trophy with four wins and Oisin Shihab runners-up spot with three.

In the last hour the top four of each group played in a handicapped Super 16 competition, and the bottom two of each went into a subsidiary Super 8 handicap. In the main draw Tat On Man again was dominant despite all his opponents starting with a points advantage. He beat Jason Bourne in the final and Sam Zimmerman impressed again finishing third.  Lucas Rymarz ould the Super 8 beating Arkaidy in the final. Toby Gee beat his dad Clive to claim third spot.

Well done to everyone to all players involved for performing well and playing in a super spirit.
