Kingslea are the new primary school rounders top dogs in the Horsham area after their A team impressively rode the waves of some tough opponents at this year’s championships again held at Millais School in Horsham under the auspices of an excellent team of young leader (year 9) officials.
A record entry of 18 teams was cast into six first phase groups of three with a pitch each to do battle on. Kingslea A breezed through Group 1, North Heath A nudged out Leechpool B by half a rounder to take Group 2, Southwater a was comfortable in Group 3, Kingslea B squuezed out Shelley to take Group 4, Leechpool A dominated Group 5 and Heron Way won Group 6 to make up a second-phase Upper Tier with second placed teams feeding into Middle Tier groups and third placed ones into Lower Tier ones.
In the Lower Tier St John’s and Leechpool C put first phase disappointments behind them to bounce back with strong performances to see them reach a final that St John’s won 4-1. Leechpool was also represented in the Middle Tier final with its B team meeting a strong Shelley team that had just missed out on top tier qualification. Shelley’s class told with a 7-2.5 confident win.
Leechpool made it a hat-trick of final appearances winning through a very tight second phase group for the right to play Kingslea A who had also come through some close matches on the other side of the draw, most notably by half a rounder versus Southwater A. The final proved a fitting climax with the two teams being divided by just half a rounder in Kingslea’s favour by the end….a case of Always the Bridesmaid for Leechpool but well done to the Kings for their success, and indeed their B team doing well to, just missing out on third to North Heath A.
