Kingslea won the year 5 football cup tonight on the Tanbridge astroturf. They battled out a scoreless draw in the final versus Leechpool A but won out on the footgolf decider.
15 teams entered the event being split into four first phase groups before feeding into a second phase on groups based on position achieved.
The big school first teams – Kingslea, Southwater, Leechpool and Heron Way, dominated the initial group stage but it was good to see lots of close games between all the teams involved, 3-0 being the biggest margin witnessed, and just twice, from a total 15 matches, and footgolf being required to split teams in a number of matches. St John’s, St Mary’s Pulborough and Shelley also gave good accounts of themselves in falling just short of the second phase top tier.
In the top tier Kingslea beat Southwater A 2-0 in the semi before going on to glory in the final. Arunside were cock-a-hoop to win the second tier, their female goalkeeper being the heroine in another footgolf decider over St Mary’s Pulborough.
A score recording error led to St John’s taking a slight detour before beating Castlewood to take Tier 3 honours. Northolmes appeared suitably delighted with their declaration as Tier 4 winners following their 2-1 victory over Heron Way B.
