Powerful Starts in Netball Pool B from Nuthurst and Southwater A Teams

Pool B of the Horsham Primary Schools Netball League started up tonight at The Bridge’s multicourts. Thankfully there was no repeat of the drama of Pool A two weeks ago where the schedule was disrupted by two teams not being able to get through flooded roads to make the opening meeting. This time all eight teams were there in good time and raring to go.

St Andrew’s School Nuthurst is a small school with a big netballing reputation and the class of ’22 is no different. Their A team made light work of the opposition in their three matches, racking up 38 goals and only conceding three.

Shelley also impressed with three wins and indeed because of playing one more than the other likely contenders led the table by the end of the night but the quality of the Nuthurst front side was demonstrated in spades in the second round of matches as they tore through the Shelley defences to notch an 11-1 victory.

Come meeting 2 in the New Year however Southwater A might just have something to say in the battle for top spot. They registered three confident victories and whilst they weren’t quite as freescoring as the Nutties they were equally mean at the back. Southwater A and Nuthurst A play each other next time out – sparks may fly.

Heron Way made a welcome return to the netballing fray with a mixed night of two wins and two defeats but they still have to play the two unbeaten sides so will need to keep improving. With a game in hand Southwater B sit just a point behind them scoring good wins over North Heath and Nuthurst B before their A team burst their balloon in a match that was competitive but ended 5-2.

North Heath have some work to do to rise through the mid-table ranks but showed plenty of ability as a basis for future optimism in their three games.

Winless nights for both Nuthurst B and Northolmes. The former will be consoled by good defensive performances against all teams except their own A team who put 10 past them; their priority will be finding a way to score more goals. Northolmes’ small squad found it tough going but with Nuthurst A, Southwater A and Shelley teams now in their rear view mirror will hope things will be easier next time.
