Colgate are the New Sheriffs of Dodge City

Colgate A won the Association of Small Schools Horsham (ASSH) year 3+4 dodgeball festival at Millais School yesterday. The festival was a centrepiece of the weekly project work Horsham Sports Services is currently undertaking in four ASSH schools – Colgate, Holy Trinity Lower Beeding, St Peter’s Cowfold and Rusper.

Millais year 9 sports leaders ran the event superbly in their sports hall which was able to fit four dodgeball courts in to keep all eight teams, two per school, consistently occupied during the event duration. Leaders fulfilled various tasks including officiating, results compilation, chaperoning and briefing the children.

Colgate A’s hegemony was never in doubt and only their stablemates, Colgate B, were able to dent their record by holding them to a 1-1 draw. Principal challengers and eventual runners-up Rusper A also gave them a good game but went down by the odd goal in three. Colgate B drew with Rusper A 1-1 also and they might have made it and Colgate double but for a 1-0 loss to Lower Beeding in the fourth round of matches.

Cowfold A took fourth, their main supply of points coming with wins against both Lower Beeding sides. Staying on the subject of Lower Beeding and Cowfold schools the former’s A team prevailed in the table over the latter’s B team courtesy of superior ends difference.

In the table’s basement Lower Beeding B and Rusper B engaged a similarly close struggle to avoid propping all others up at the finish. Lower Beeding benefitted on this one too by ends difference, however good to see the results right the way through the table indicating how competitive the festival was; for example bottom team Rusper B managed to achieve three draws, one of which came against fourth placed Cowfold A.

Well done to all primary school pupils and Millais’ leaders for putting on a fantastic show.
