Heron Way hosted an excellent year 3 and 4 inclusive football competition on Monday and from the eight teams involved their A team emerged as winners beating Greenway 1-0 in the final. The purpose of the competition was to give more children the opportunity to experience a football competition and all the boys and girls involved grasped it with some gusto.

The teams were split into two groups of four in the first phase. In Group A Heron Way B and Greenway tied at the top on 13 points after the two shared a goalless draw when they met. Thus it required goal difference to split them, this going in Greenway’s favour as a consequence of their two goal victory over Southwater.

Heron Way A were the dominant force in Group A winning all of their three games, but mostly importantly sneaking one past Leechpool A to decide who came top between the two.

In the play-offs Leechpool B won an exciting encounter with Loxwood 2-1 to take seventh. The Loxwood goal was celebrated like they had won the final! Southwater C convincingly took fifth with a 2-0 win over Leechpool C and then in the third place match there was a share of the spoils between Heron Way B and Leechpool A as neither managed to score. And of course in the final Heron Way A ended up jubilant after nudging out Greenway.
