Net and Wall Games
Team Entries to Date:
No teams have entered this competition this academic year so far
Entry Information:Primary Schools Years 4, 5 and 6Virtual Net/Wall Game Skill Competitions | |
CONCEPT | Virtual competition where competing team scores are compared on a leaderboard |
CATCHMENT AREA | Any primary school in the Horsham District |
VENUE | Pupils undertake events and scored by Horsham Sports Services staff on their own school site |
AGE/GENDER/ELIGIBILITY | Age categories – each separate year group of years 4, 5 and 6 There will be A and B team events in each age group. C, D etc events may also be possible for schools wanting to enter more teams as part of an inclusive approach. We will be led by demand on this aspect! Results can also be segmented between large and small schools and, if desired and sufficient entry, geographic/school family areas |
TEAM SIZE/ENTRY | 6 boy and 6 girl participants from a year group |
DATES/TIMES | All events and scoring to be undertaken by no later than 30/6/21. Dates/times of sessions to be arranged individually with schools on basis of mutual convenience. |
COST | As a guide – basic scoring of a single year group team by 2 visiting Horsham Sports Services coaches will take 60 minutes (not including set-up time). Coaches each to be charged at £33/hr, so the cost of testing a full team of 6 boys and 6 girls to be £66. Notes: Scoring 12 children at a time is the preferred approach to testing but variations can be agreed if necessary to fit in with school needs Schools may choose to have an enhanced 90 minute session which is the basic session above plus more practice opportunity before being scored. Obviously schools may choose to do their own training in preparation for the assessment. |
WEATHER CONSIDERATIONS | The events and scoring needs to be done outside so weather needs to be reasonable enough to ensure this and on some occasions may necessitate communication between Horsham Sports Services and schools to ensure agreement on the best decision. |
VENUE NEEDS | Playground tarmac or grass will suit, although tarmac access will be better in allowing a more consistent bounce for the tennis and squash stations. All specialist equipment will be imported in by the organisers where necessary (eg squash wall) |
ETHOS/FAIR PLAY | Fun and participation Pupil experience and training in net/wall games will be an advantage but is not a necessity – children of any skill level will benefit from and enjoy participating Note that scores of all competing schools only declared publicly at the end of the competition period so as not to give an unfair advantage to schools participating later in the process |
