Sometimes it can be hard to start being more physically active. Parkrun chatted with a mental health expert from their partners at Mind to get some top tips to consider if you or someone you know is just starting to get active, or trying a new activity like parkrun.

New research finds fewer than a third of girls (29%) dream of reaching the top of sport compared to half of boys (52%). Over the last three years the charity Women in Sport has tracked how the increased visibility of elite women’s sport has inspired girls. Despite inspirational performances from football’s Lionesses and netball’s Vitality Roses this summer, the latest data shows the number of girls who aspire to play elite level sport has declined (by 2%) compared to the same time a year ago.

Grassroots sports clubs and community physical activity groups have a new home as Sport England launch Buddle. The National Lottery funded programme – which replaces Sport England’s Club Matters offering – will provide free learning and support resources to inspire and strengthen clubs and organisations offering sport and physical activity, as well the professionals that work with them. 

New figures released today show Sport England have protected more than 1,000 playing fields in England between April 2021 and March 2022.

Sport England has published its latest Active Lives Children and Young People survey that covers the 2022-23 academic year. Children and young people’s overall activity levels are stable as the initial recovery from the pandemic was maintained across the 2022-23 academic year.
