The Horsham Primary Schools Year 3+4 Football Leagues got underway tonight on the astroturf at Tanbridge House School. As ever there was great endeavour and lots of super matches but unlike last week’s year 5+6 age group opener there was much more dominance on display from certain teams in each of the two competitions – (1) large school teams, and (2) small school and large school B teams.
Southwater were at their ruthless best in the large schools pool winning their three games without conceding a goal, only Shelley pushing them close in a single goal game. North Heath were even more emphatic also winning all their three games to love in tennis speak but scoring eight more goals in the process. These two meet in two weeks’ time. Expect sparks to fly.
The Heron Way and Leechpool teams occupy the mid-table territory and will need big results in their matches versus North Heath and Southwater respectively to have hope of breaking into the top two spaces that will qualify for the play-off final. After a bad start Shelley’s results improved to the point of holding Heron Way A to a draw in their final game of the night. A tough evening for Kingslea with a straight run of heavy losses.
In the small schools and B teams competition a battle royale was engaged between St Robert Southwell and Castlewood. Both won three of their four matches and drew with each other in their fourth. So both stand clear at the top, level on points and only divided in St Rob’s favour by goal difference. The round-robin will be repeated next week and all eyes will be on the second encounter between the two.
Leechpool B head a tight chasing pack courtesy of their exciting 2-1 win over Heron Way B. St Mary’s Horsham and Heron Way B still seek their first win at the end of the first meeting although both achieved draws to evidence their competitiveness.
