Kingslea A are the local primary schools netball champions for this season winning an exciting tournament contested by six teams from four schools and held at Leechpool School this afternoon.
The teams were initially split into two first phase groups of three. Kingslea A’s 4-3 win over St Robert Southwell was the pivotal game in Group A. St Roberts beat Leechpool B more heavily than Kingslea A did so a draw would have seen them through but a classic encounter saw them lose out by the odd goal in seven.
Group B’s key match came first up as Heron Way met hosts Leechpool A. Leechpool had the better of the early exchanges and took a lead but Heron Way fought back to take it 3-2 in another thriller. Again the team which just needed a draw to go through to the final was the one to fall short.
In the fifth-place play-off Kingslea beat Leechpool narrowly in the battle of the B teams and Leechpool A took the third place with a single goal strike over St Robert Southwell. Goals flowed nicely at both ends in the final but when the final whistle blew Kingslea with eight had scored three more than Heron Way and the glory was theirs.
