The annual Horsham Primary Schools Swimming Gala ran at Pavilions in the Park this afternoon with eight schools taking part. Three schools entered the A teams event which was for teams that included some or all club swimmers. Eight took part in the B teams event in which club swimmers were excluded.

In the A event Southwater only had a partial team and with race restrictions applying could not compete for the team prize, although their swimmer did win both the races he was eligible for. Greenway took the lead in the two-way tussle with All Saints with a superior time the first race but unfortunately for them that was as good as it got as the Saints came marching in to better them in the next seven races.

St Mary’s Horsham was the dominant force in the B event winning the first six races in fine style. In the last two races they were not quite as confident in handling the implements – the ball and the float – in those relays but by that time they were effectively home and dry. Their winning score was a whopping 58 points. 

The battle for second place between St John’s and Southwater was more interesting. St John’s’ points accumulation was steady and consistent whilst Southwater were more up and down. Going into the home straight St John’s looked odds on but Southwater were experts with ball and float in hand, posting two maximums which resulted in them falling just three points short. So second to St John’s and third to Southwater.

Well done to all teams and swimmers for contributing to an excellent gala.
