Another super girls football meeting on the Tanbridge astroturf tonight as Horsham area primary school teams convened for the second instalment of three. The large round-robin of 10 teams was completed in good style and in two weeks’ time the teams will split into upper and lower tiers of five teams each to add points to their hauls to date.
Southwater were in dominant form adding another four wins to their previous four but second placed Leechpool A, also remaining unbeaten with another three wins tonight, held them to a scoreless draw; the only match that the Southies failed to score in. Notably Southwater have yet to concede a goal and if Leechpool A is going to have a chance of overtaking them in meeting 3 it looks like they are going to have to find some way to break into Fort Knox.
Kingslea still have an outside chance of glory despite the blow of tonight’s last round 2-0 reverse to Southwater, but realistically they will have to win all their matches next week. Smaller schools Plaistow/Kirdford and St Robert Southwell will have been delighted to have competed as well as they have to finish top half and qualify for the Upper Tier.
Clear favourites for the lower tier competition will be Shelley and Heron Way, both finishing on 25 points but the former with a slightly superior goal difference. They will be joined by Leechpool B, Castlewood and St Mary’s Pulborough.
