Every Saturday morning, thousands of people across the UK and around the world lace up their trainers and head to their local parkrun. parkrun is simple, a free 5k open to everyone, no matter your age, pace, or background. But beyond the finish lines and barcodes, parkrun is about something deeper, it’s about community, belonging, and fairness.
This Black History Month is the perfect moment to reflect on how the power of running and community physical activity can be used to highlight and tackle racial inequality and to celebrate the incredible contributions of Black athletes and volunteers who have shaped the running world.
