St Robert Southwell won the Horsham Area Year 3+4 Basketball Championships tonight at Kingslea School to give another small school success in local primary school basketball following St Mary’s win in the year 5+6 tournament last week. It’s great to see success being spread around.

St Roberts made an inauspicious start losing 6-0 to a Kingslea B team that had lost its first game 6-4 to Northolmes. Northolmes continued to score wins albeit fairly close ones; so St Roberts was always playing catch-up despite gaining its first win in round 3 over Kingslea A 8-4. However in the next round they really announced themselves as contenders by smashing Shelley 20-0.

All came to a head in the fifth and final round of matches with unbeaten Northolmes being next up for St Robs. With their scoring momentum still up St Rob’s went into overdrive to win 24-8 to finish level on 16 points with their final opponent, but superior by virtue of winning their head-to-head match.

Well done to all five teams for serving up some excellent basketball on a hot evening and thanks to Kingslea for hosting the event.
