Year 5+6 girls footballers were in action again tonight for meeting 2 (of three) of the primary schools football league on the Tanbridge astroturf. Leechpool A added to their one hundred percent record from the first meeting with another five wins to establish a clear lead by the end of the evening.

The first round of the night saw the leading two – Southwater and Leechpool A – come together. A tight match ensued but it was Leechpool who got the decisive goal to establish an advantage in the table over their principal rivals. From that point on Leechpool kept racking up the wins, even though the last of them, 1-0 versus Heron Way, came with just five seconds left on the clock. Southwater recovered their mojo after initial defeat by winning all their remaining matches including 3-1 against a dangerous Plaistow and Kirdford outfit and a late sole goal victory against Kingslea A.

Despite their Southwater loss Kingslea A were the biggest risers, partly helped by them playing five games in the six rounds, finishing in third spot. They don’t tend to score many but concede even less. They sit one point above an ever impressive Plaistow and Kirdford outfit that added two more wins to its tally.

Shelley remained unbeaten throughout the evening but that record included three goalless draws to add to a single goal success against Pulborough so they dropped a place to fifth. Below them is a tight mid-table pack of three teams led by Heron Way and followed by St Robert Southwell and Leechpool B split on goal difference in the former’s favour.

Kingslea B will hope to close the gap above them next time out by winning its game in hand and hoping to put more distance between them and Castlewood who entered the fray tonight by accumulating 12 points from its six matches.

Leechpool C and Pulborough remain in the bottom two positions; although their defences are good enough to keep them interested in most matches they both struggle to score goals.
