The Horsham Primary Schools Tennis League concluded yesterday on the tarmac courts at Horsham Tennis Club yesterday. All teams showed play of a quality to indicate a strong improvement over the process.

In the Year 3+4 age group St Mary’s Horsham held off the challlengers to their top position and indeed slightly extended the gap to take the title. Holbrook School did likewise in the Year 5+6s. At both levels improved results for the bottom teams was evidence of a narrowing of ability differences and a more competitive meeting.

In the Year 3+4s Jensen from Southwater was the only player to achieve a full house of wins but these heroics were not enough to stop St Mary’s who spread their points accumulation responsibility throughout the team with all four of them winning at least half of their matches. Well done to Holbrook for providing their best meeting performance of the competition.

In the Year 5+6s Ethan was Holbrook’s main man again winning another four matches to preserve his unbeaten status across the process but he did not have it easy against Southwater with Halle losing out by double-faulting on the decisive point and Ryan doing well against him to only fall 14-11 within the time window available. Jathan, George and Dietrix all provided solid support as a basis for their triumph. Well done to St Mary’s Horsham for improving their record considerably through the efforts of their girls, Rosanna and Holly, winning 2.5 and 2 points respectively.

Next Friday 4-6pm brings the primary schools tennis competition season to an end with the individual tournament.
