Quadkids Double for Southwater

It was a great morning today for Southwater Junior Academy as they won both the year 3+4 and year 5+6 B team quadkid athletics events that were held at The Bridge’s athletics track. This was the third and final event in this summer’s series and just as in the previous two the weather behaved well to enable a successful process.

As ever quadkids involved the implementation of four activity stations to rotate around – middle distance run, howler throw, sprint and standing long jump. Staff and volunteers ably undertook the officiating of the stations under the guidance and control of event director Dave Ingram and results were inputted into computer spreadsheets that thankfully ‘said yes’ after the final button was pressed to produce the final team points totals.

When the results were declared for the year 3+4s Southwater edged out Heron Way by 17 points, which is wafer thin when you see that Southwater’s winning score was 2566. Kingslea achieved third.

Leechpool A scored 2561 points which was just five points behind Southwater but being an A team their score required comparison with other A teams that competed in last week’s A event which Leechpool were unable to attend. That score would have earned them eighth place last week.

In the year 5+6 age group the same two schools sat in the top two spots and again in the same order of performance merit. This time Southwater prevailed by 71 points, still very close in view of a winning score of 2963. Leechpool took third.

All very interesting in view of Heron Way being the dominant school in the indoor athletics season but Southwater dominating the outdoor season. Who can explain that conundrum!
