Lox Rock and Saints in Heaven at District Sports Small Schools

After a three year pandemic-related gap District Sports Athletics competition returned to the local primary school sports scene as nine smaller schools of the area convened in the athletics stadium of The Bridge leisure centre, Broadbridge Heath. The morning event was the year 3 and 4 age category and Loxwood emerged triumphant. In the afternoon year 5 and 6 event All Saints, Horsham took top spot.

The weather was perfect, fine but with temperatures at around 20C not being over-demanding on the children and consequently a number of the youngsters were able to perform at their full potential. The format employed was the quadkids system that involved the children undertaking four disciplines – howler throw, sprint, standing long jump and a middle distance run – as a test of their all-round athletics competence.

From an organisational perspective things mostly went to plan in catering for around 350 children over the course of the day and processing of the order of 1500 items of results data. At the officiating coalface teachers and parent/other volunteers did a great job of generating the results under the direction of event director Dave Ingram.
