Warnham are Badminton Wonders
15 children from Warnham and St Mary’s Pulborough primary schools contested a fabulous badminton competition this afternoon at The Bridge. St Mary’s brought a few less children than originally planned so instead of there being 10 teams of two involved there were five teams of two and another five teams of one – they say no man is an island but for badminton it was made temporarily possible!
Warnham’s two teams performed impressively in the group stage. In Group B the Warnham B team was dominant with four straight wins. Warnham A looked to be on course for similar in Group A but Pulborough B had other ideas, beating them 9-7 when they met and managing narrow wins in its three other matches. Pulborough A took second spot in Group B after finishing on similar group points to Pulborough C but trumping them on total points scored in their games.
Pulborough teams ended up contesting all of the fifth, seventh and ninth place play-off games – F, H and G winning them respectively. Warnham A took third beating Pulborough A 10-7 in an exciting match and in the final Warnham B’s boys were just too strong for the female bravely constituting the Pulborough B team on her own, as illustrated by the 19-5 final score.
Well done to all children for displaying super behaviour, fair play, umpiring judgement, scoring discipline and great listening skills for following the bespoke ‘team singles’ format employed.
